Forestry

We manage about 1,000 acres of our land is planted as forestry for commercial purposes. In recent years we have started the work to transition from a process of clear felling and restocking, to being more active in thinning plantations and encouraging natural regeneration. As with all things in forestry this change in management policy is a very long-term process.

As part of our response to the climate crisis we are looking to increase the forested land area at Kinnordy, and particularly at Balintore. In 2021 we planted 550,000 trees in a new woodland area of Balintore Estate, balancing commercial and native species to cover an area of about an additional 300 hectares.

We expect to continue to expand the afforested area at both Balintore and Kinnordy in future years.
